The collection includes 5 diaries, 1898-1899, and 1904 and 1911 which include newspaper cuttings and some letters and photographs. Also included are poems and other MS by Boldrewood and a typed copy of a journal kept on board ship from Marseilles to Melbourne in 1861. There are also letters regarding the picture rights of Robbery under arms and correspondence between Rose Browne (Boldrewoods's daughter) and J. A. Ferguson.

Rose Boldrewood was a "young novelist searching for new material" at the time the notebook was created. She was the daughter of the Australian novelist T. A. Browne (Rolf Boldrewood) and used the pseudonym "Rose Boldrewood". She had one novel published, that being "The Complications at Collaroi", and later in life she wrote some memoirs of her father.
